Nixon Extends Endorsement Lead Over McGovern in Newspapers
With under two weeks to Election Day, Nixon has earned more than 700 newspaper endorsements, far surpassing his 1968 tally. The Chicago Sun Times praised Nixon’s economic policy and China and Soviet moves, while McGovern drew support from the New York Times and St. Louis Post Dispatch, among others. Several Texas papers shifted to the Republican column, and Newsday announced it will drop endorsements to stay independent.
