New Tropical Storm Eyed Near Bermuda Investigation Start
An Air Force plane was to fly from Bermuda to investigate a storm about 500 miles north of Puerto Rico. Weather officials labeled it semi tropical and said it was unlikely to strengthen into a hurricane or tropical storm due to its far-north position in the season. The disturbance had winds near 40 mph over a wide area, prompting a special warning to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The Bermuda flight would check conditions twice in its daily routine, with a full report not yet available.
