Cotton Crop in Comanche County Expected to Improve in 1957

County agent Lewis Haydock says 1957 cotton yields could reach one third to three quarters of a bale per acre on about 8,700 planted acres, far above 1956’s 1,685 bales from 9,500 acres. At 30 cents per pound, value could rise to roughly $600,000 if rains don’t delay harvest or reduce grade, with potential losses up to $20 per bale if cotton is wet in ginning. Acreage in soil bank and unplanted portions dent overall figures. wheat and dairy near million-dollar crops are noted.
