Court orders new trial for Mardian in Watergate case

An appeals court orders a separate trial for former Nixon aide J. Fred Mardian after ruling his right to counsel and his minor role warranted severance. The six-judge panel finds the jury impartial despite extensive publicity. A partial dissent questions trial location and Mardian’s separate trial reasoning.
