Faubus Eisenhower in Little Rock Deadlock Eyes Compromise
Faubus and Eisenhower spoke of possible compromises but offered no concrete shifts in the Little Rock crisis. Faubus warned he would not obstruct court orders on integration and would assume responsibility for order if troops leave. Eisenhower insisted troops stay unless peace assurances from Faubus or local police control. Reports mention disputed claims about soldiers guarding dressing rooms and unspecified evidence in Faubus charges.

Sputnik Battery Life and Silent Spaceraid
Sputnik's batteries are described as conventional heavy chemical types with short life under heavy use. The Naval Research Laboratory notes the craft went silent over six hours, then resumed. Electrical disturbances in the upper atmosphere or intentional power saving could explain the radio silence. Spatnik could circle Earth for days or years after radio falls silent, though tracking would be easier if its path was well predicted beforehand.
