Russians Sample Upper Air With Rocket Sniffers
Russians described a rocket based method to sample high altitude air during an IGY session. A container deployed at 50 to 125 miles would collect pure samples before parachuting back for analysis, showing oxygen nitrogen balance and argon changes up to 60 miles. US scientists also discussed baby moons as potential weather sensors from 1500 to 2000 miles, capable of continuous earth observation for cloud cover and storm tracking.
