The Associated Press reports the Chiefs faced fierce wind and Edd Hargett's passing as the Raiders battled a stormy game at Shea Stadium in the American Football Conference Western division.
The Jets hurt the favored Chiefs 13-10 under tricky Shea wind as Len Dawson struggled in the gusts. Hargett sparked New Orleans to a 21-21 tie with three late drives, while Oakland moved into sole West lead despite a Raiders comeback.
Cleveland coach Bill Fitch denounced the prior bad home game before a 120 90 upset of Portland. Bobby Smith led with 26 points while Rick Roberson 23 rebounds Bobby Washington 2 assists set Cavaliers records. Elvin Hayes led Rockets with 38 while Seattle’s Spencer Haywood scored 32 in his club’s effort.
Tex Winter trials a new offense with the Houston Rockets as players clash with him. Elvin Hayes refused substitution then returned after talks. Don Adams walked out twice citing shape issues and a dispute with Winter, while Rockets pursue a possible trade.
Nebraska remained unbeaten at 9 0 and 5 0 in league play with a 37 0 win over Iowa State. Oklahoma improved to 8 0 4 0 with a 20 0 victory over Missouri. Kansas State upset potential, Kansas led by Dennis Morrison, and Colorado beat Kansas 35 14 as Big Eight rivals prepare for the November 25 clash.
Tulsa extended its lead in the CHL with two wins over the weekend. The Oilers improved to 8-2 after beating the Omaha Knights 5-2 and the Fort Worth Wings 6-3. Dallas rose to 42-3 with a 4-0 win over Kansas City and a 1-1 draw with Omaha. Fort Worth defeated Oklahoma City 8-4. Next, Tulsa visits Dallas and Fort Worth plays Kansas City.
Lawton High hosts Duncan and Cameron as Southwest ern State and Oklahoma Collegiate Conference rivals face pivotal tests. Eisenhower eyes edge over Duncan while Cameron seeks to overtake Southwestern. MacArthur forfeit and injuries shake Apache. Week ends with Eisenhower 20 Duncan 6 and Cameron 31 Northeastern 28.
Three Oklahoma State oriented wrestling coaches will teach at the Lawton Wrestling Clinic November 19 20 at St Marys gymnasium. In the Oklahoma Collegiate Conference Southwestern fell to Northwestern 21-0 and Cameron dropped a 31-28 decision to Northeastern. Southwestern leads the standings at 5-1, while Cameron and Williams rush for 81 yards for the Aggies. Evans had 79 and James Williams 72 yards with two TDs.
Central State remains tied for second at 41-1 after beating Southeastern 34-21. Langston upset East Central 21-20 to knock them from title contention as Panhandle edged Fort Hays 24-21. Northeastern, at 4-2, hosts Central State while Cameron, led by Hudson and Johnson, faced defensive lapses and position changes.
