Lawton Fire Department Tests New Recruits in House Blaze Demo

Three new Lawton firefighters learned hose handling in a live fire drill at a small three room frame house at 1516 F. Firemen Harold Tangent W D Barnes and Clarence Capps fought the blaze using 11 inch and 12 inch hoses then switched to 2 inch and finally used a fog master nozzle delivering up to 500 gallons a minute to control the fire. Veteran firefighters assisted to prevent hose mishaps. The exercise followed a classroom session and included relighting the structure for repeated practice.

Murder Charged In Boys Poisoning

In New Orleans a 27 year old woman Mary Moss Falcon was booked with murder after two boys William Baughman Jr 7 and Lawrence 6 died from phosphorus poison used for pest control The coroner ruled accidental poisoning at first Neighbors recalled a quarrel in September when Falcon allegedly vowed to get even The boys lived in a crowded home with a seven dollar weekly church aid and begged for food as their dying words spoke of a ham sandwich

Cityans See Lawton School Work On Public Display

Lawton public school students stage classroom demonstrations in shop windows and a department store window display to show progress from grades 1 through 12. Bond Issue Discussed for New Lawton Junior High

Lawton Board of Education met to discuss needs for a new junior high school and the possibility of spring bond votes. John Barry of Oklahoma City outlined bond types. Action halted by two absences, but site and funding were mentioned. Other items include gas-rate contract with Fort Sill, bids for library shelves, and $79,846.54 claims. First Snow Disappears as Cold Stays Over Oklahoma

Oklahoma's first snow of the season melted under fair skies but cold temperatures continued with more freezing readings forecast. Snow fell in the northwest and Panhandle yesterday, mostly light, with traces gone by morning except in Guymon where unofficial accumulations reached about three inches. Roads were slick during flurries but now clear, and low temperatures ranged from 17 to 32 across the state. Skies were fair and a warming trend was expected tomorrow as rainfall totals for last month showed wide variation across stations from trace to over 11 inches.

Explosion Seen In United DC-6B Crash Near Longmont

CAB officials said a blast type explosion shattered a cargo hold of a United Air Lines DC-6B, crashing a week earlier and killing 44 people. Investigation chief James N. Peyton reported wreckage spread over three square miles near Longmont, Colorado, with definite explosion evidence.

General Motors Parade of Progress to Visit Lawton

A downtown Lawton parade heralds the General Motors Parade of Progress with thirty gleaming vehicles and twelve Futurliners. Bands from Central junior high and Douglass high school will lead, routing from Second and Ferris to the Metropol itan park for a week of free shows from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 10 p.m. Friday through Monday. Approximately 150,000 have seen the tour in recent stays. the traveling show features a 40 minute Aerodome stage segment and demonstrations like synthetic rubber making.

Six More Die On Highways In Oklahoma Toll

Oklahoma highway fatalities rose with six more deaths, bringing the annual toll to 494 versus 489 last year. Victims include Ernest H. Wilbourn 72 Texho ma Robert F.
