Southwest Iowa’s De Soto Refuge and Bertrand Museum Highlight
In Missouri Valley Iowa the De Soto National Wildlife Refuge near Highway 30 hosts 7000 acres of wildlife habitat with 800 acre oxbow lake and 200-300 deer. The Wilson Island State Recreation Area offers camping snowmobiling and boating with ready access to two Missouri River boat ramps. The Bertrand Museum and Laboratory opened 1970 preserves cargo from the Bertrand steamship wreck with a nine member staff guiding visitors seasonally.
