March Quits Job At LURA Leader Sought By Panel
Lawton Urban Renewal director ARCH March resigned effective July 1 under pressure from the LURA board amid staffing impasse. The board accepted the resignation unanimously. Vince Elmore was offered the job but sought to review questions first. LURA has a 114 member full time staff with four to five part time workers. March defended current staffing as minimum for urban renewal. He served 15 years as the agency head as projects declined and staff fell from as high as 43 to 13 by Nov. 1975. The board indicated no mass layoffs were planned and noted no ill feelings. March said the impasse prompted his decision. March spoke to reporters after the session. page reference provided.
