Steed, who represents military installations and farmland, argues the workload would increase. The proposal would remove Caddo Greer Harmon Kidna and Washita counties and shift lines toward Oklahoma County. Only Pottawatomie Tillman McClain Jackson Comanche and Cleveland would remain in Steed’s district. Steed previously won reelection after a hard fight with Republican James Smith in 1968 and carried the 1970 race.
