Bellmon Expects No Override of Teacher Pay Veto
Oklahoma Governor Henry Bellmon said he expects the legislature will not override his veto of the teachers pay raise bill. He noted little correspondence and no direct lobbying to sustain the veto. The bill would raise salaries by 200 dollars for the coming biennium and 1,000 over six years. He said financing would require deep cuts to other agencies and hinted salaries could be adjusted later in appropriations. Bellmonalso urged a quick decision on Interstate 35 routing in south central Oklahoma and outlined plans to meet in Washington with Rex Whitton on the route issue. He will attend a Goldwater dinner before returning to Oklahoma.
