Cascade and Penache stir offshore racing scenes
Two new ocean racing boats unsettle the yachting world. Cascade, a 37 footer with a forward mainmast and amidships mizzen, debuts in Florida and tops SORC races despite a low rating, while West Coast designer Bill Lee’s 40 foot Penache, built in Santa Cruz and nicknamed a Red Park-40, faces Transpac scrutiny as ULDB. Offshore powerboats also push new Cigarette models by Don Aronow aiming for fifth straight championships.
