Global TB rates level off but cases rise with population growth
WHO data show global TB rates steady in 2005 while the number of people with TB climbed to 8.8 million new cases and 1.6 million deaths due to population growth and gaps in treatment. Experts warn that drug resistant TB and XDR-TB complicate control efforts as Africa and wealthy nations report rising cases, and funding remains insufficient to close diagnostic and treatment gaps.
