Navigation System Bolstered River Economy, Group Told
An Oklahoma Kerr Foundation official said the McClellan Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System is neither a bonanza nor a boondoggle. The 448 mile waterway links the Mississippi at White River to Catoosa near Tulsa, with 17 locks and dams and four major lakes. Between 1970 and 1975 regional net migration rose, manufacturing grew, and 497 new or expanded plants formed, while about 34 million tons moved via the system from 1970 to 1976.
