Getty Fortune Bequeathed Mainly To California Museum
The will of J Paul Getty leaves the bulk of his fortune to the J Paul Getty Museum in California. Between 650 and 700 million dollars is expected to go to the non profit institution, with hundreds of millions already placed in trusts. Provisions also leave shares and annuities to former wives and other women, while three sons receive smaller sums. The museum could become one of the wealthiest art institutions in the world. Stephen Garrett notes the bequest may transform the museum’s endowment and its ability to carry Getty’s art program forward.
