Bellmon Keeps Quiet On Proposals To Restructure Agencies
Oklahoma Governor Henry Bellmon declined to comment on plans to abolish the merit system for the crime bureau and move the bureau and liquor enforcement to his office. He also avoided remarks on transferring narcotics enforcement to the state health department. He offered to back down on Lloyd K. Allen's appointment as commerce and industry director if lawmakers disapprove, though he expected their dismissal. The conference appropriations committee, debating transfers, met again as Bellmon tries to stay out of matters reaching his desk. He noted he might act but does not want to make speeches to the press. The governor’s floor leaders have backed moves to place the crime bureau under the governor and remove its agents from the merit system. The committee previously voted to transfer the crime bureau but did not decide on other changes.

Police call the act a mercy killing as the ambassador faced inoperable cancer. The couple, long noted for Danish resistance to Nazis, were found by a nurse in their suite.
