Lawton's 1901 Town Lot Sale Opens Banking Boom
Before Aug 6 1901 the Lawton townsite opened with a government sale and 25 daily land filings guarded by U S cavalry. Banks emerged in tents along the site as cash payments dominated, with Citizens State Bank opening Aug 13 and later moving to brick buildings. The era marked rapid banking growth as law and order provisions lagged.
