Lawton and Comanche county residents celebrate the citys 54th birthday with rodeo festivities a four day event includes a mile parade launching at 4 pm Wednesday through downtown with local riding clubs bands and floats. Cash prizes will be awarded for best entries and dressed participants with specific age based prizes. Parade entries welcome from any person or organization and area clubs invited to join as missing riders may have rejoined.

FHA Financing Rules Stiffened and GI Loans Affected
Washington July 30 UP The Eisenhower administration raised down payments on government insured homes by 2 percent and ended VA no down payment policy for GI loans. Federal Housing Chief Albert M. Cole called it a temporary precaution to curb inflation risk. Mortgage terms drop from 30 to 25 years. interest rates remain 4.5 percent for VA and 5 percent for FHA. The move aims to slightly cool housing demand as builders project strong activity this year. For a $12,000 FHA house the down payment rises from $1,200 to $1,440.

Lawton airman slain in Libya tragedy shocks family
Gene H. Wallis, 27, a Lawton airman stationed in Tripoli, was killed by knife wounds in Libya. His mother Mrs Daisy Cleaver, visiting Lawton, and relatives in Oklahoma City and Oakland learned of the death via Defense Department telegrams. Wallis was born in Oklahoma, grew up in Lawton and Carlsbad New Mexico, and had lived in Oakland during service breaks.

She will start September 1, succeeding Mrs. Louise Kennedy Rupe, who resigns to join her husband in service after more than a year in the role. Brannon is listed in the Comanche County Junior Free Fair program released by the county agents office. her current station is not disclosed.
