States Move Toward Public Accommodation Laws
A survey shows 9 states have public accommodation laws similar to Kennedy era civil rights proposals. The North and West push de facto integration, while the South fights phase 1 dismantling laws. Illinois enforces strict anti discrimination yet housing bias remains widespread. Massachusetts bans most bias except in two family dwellings. Maryland and New York enact and expand public accommodations rules affecting hotels, restaurants, theaters, and housing. New York's latest amendments broaden coverage to most housing.
