West Virginia Coal Strike Triggers Widespread Shutdowns
West Virginia's coal industry remains paralyzed by a wildcat strike over court involvement in labor disputes. About 2,500 Ohio miners strike, 59,300 WV miners idle, costing $2 million daily in wages. Railroads furlough hundreds as mines close, with potential spread to PA and IL. Judge Knapp's injunction efforts fail to end the walkout.
