Soviet Festival Draws Global Youth Amid Attendee Tensions

Hundreds of youths from around the world headed for a Moscow festival as Komsomolskaya Pravda condemned nations restricting attendance. A French party of 100 sailed from Le Havre on the Balikta, while Maurice Thorns joined unexpectedly as a French Communist leader. A New York group of 15 defectors, including 16 year old Maureen Lundroil, left after her statement that she questioned the festival. Barbara Perry, a U.S. Youth Festival Committee official, said she is not a Communist as she aims for peace with the Russians.
