Claims To Be Allowed Indian Wells In Oklahoma Tribes
Oklahoma tribes fought over a 20 million farm claim tied to Kiowa Comanche and Apache lands in Southwest Oklahoma. Attorney Ronny Thompson said the Indian Claims Commission disallowed government offsets, reversing a prior decision. The case began with a nearly two million dollar favorable judgment on the 1900 land valuation, but offsets reduced the award to about 1.6 million after the commission later limited offsets to around 300 thousand. Tribal attorneys sought a rehearing and the commission reaffirmed the original judgment.
