A 22 year old man identified as Billy Ryan fired six to seven shots from his Oklahoma City home a night. Police used tear gas to flush him out. he surrendered at a rear window fifteen minutes later and was jailed for possible mental hearing.
Nine candidates for Oklahoma state legislative seats withdrew Monday forfeiting their $200 filing fees. Only one incumbent faced no opposing candidate. The state Election Board planned hearings on challenges to other candidacies, with five protests filed. The withdrawals touched districts 26 54 73 76 82 101 and Senate districts 43 52.
Federal grants totaling 162,770 support Comanche County Improvement Foundation Inc Community Action Agency. Frank White announces a 153,610 grant for the Neighborhood Youth Corps summer program aiding disadvantaged youth returning to school and a 9,160 grant to continue the alcoholism program.
A 19 year old Fort Sill man was arraigned before Special District Judge John Taylor on a second degree burglary charge. Clarence R Mathews of the 471st Transportation Company was arrested Saturday night under a building at Sixth and C after George Boyd Ston manager of Flake Uniform Service reported catching a man fitting Mathews description inside the building. Preliminary hearing set for 10 30 am on Aug 3 with bond set at 1000.
The Sullivan Village Assembly of God church at 4465 E. Lee conducts nightly revival meetings through July 30 starting at 7 30 each evening except Saturdays when there is no service Pastor Curtis Newton leads the church which organized in March 1972.
Cleveland County District Court Judge Elvin Brown enjoins Oklahoma Electric Cooperative from extending power lines or service beyond Norman. The ruling finds no authority for beyond Norman since 1951 annexation and holds a 1961 act unconstitutional for allowing cities to extend without local consent. OG&E holds the applicable franchise. OEC plans to appeal.
