Fireworks Ban Rejected Union Bid Delayed in Lawton
Lawton city council deferred action on Teamsters Local 886 push for a local secret ballot election to choose a bargaining agent. Laborers Local 495 claimed majority support in many of the same divisions and sought exclusive representation without involving the fire fighters, who already have a contract with the city. Council delayed amid unresolved claims as City Manager John Thomson reviews union cards and authority. The session also advanced a request to hire a mass transit expert to explore feasibility and funding for a local bus system with possible Community Development funds.

Regulators urged deregulation to boost rail competition
Coleman argued against nationalization, warning it would shift focus. He noted trucking and rail subsidies abroad show why broad economic regulation should be questioned. The President and Coleman seek to curb a system that rewards inefficiency over innovation.
