Senators Vote to Delay Alaska Pipeline Plan
The Senate defeated a move to delay the trans Alaska oil pipeline by 61 to 29, blocking proposals to route oil via Canada. Mondale proposed a year delay with NAS study of routes and immediate talks with Canada on Mackenzie Valley routing. A court case by conservation groups could still stall the project for years.
