Anadarko Civics Charge C of C With Indian Agency Doublecross
Anadarko civic groups accuse the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce of a doublecross over plans to close the Kiowa Indian agency after 69 years of operation. The Kiowa agency may be consolidated with other western Oklahoma offices, with 24 Kiowa staff facing 30 days notice. Concerns center on reduced federal funds and the impact on services to more than 6,600 Indians. The plan envisions Oklahoma City offices supervising western Oklahoma and Muskogee handling eastern Oklahoma affairs, tying to budget cuts and disputed funding.
