Baby Born Without Esophagus Receives Pioneering Surgery
In Los Angeles a nine day old baby born without an esophagus received a novel operation replacing the missing pathway with colon tissue. The rare, 10 year in development procedure, tested on animals, was done at Children’s Hospital last Thursday on baby M born January 18 in Encino. If recovery continues as expected the infant may drink milk soon and leave hospital within about ten days.
