Powerflyte engine boosts efficiency without more displacement
Doss notes the L head engine gains overall efficiency while maintaining fuel economy and reliability. Changes include higher compression from 7.0 to 7.45, a new double barrel Duolo carburetor, larger intake passages, redesigned combustion chambers, a highlift camshaft, and improved exhaust. The 1953 Ambassador uses a 120 horsepower high compression six, with a Super Jetfire engine optional at extra cost, designed to run on regular gasoline and recalling the LeMans high compression record.
