Water fight over Oklahoma water turns to Texas suit

Oklahoma faces a federal lawsuit filed by the Tarrant Regional Water District over a state moratorium on out of state water sales. If Texas wins, eastern Oklahoma could lose water to Texas while state officials defend a 50 year plan. The case sets a hearing for January 23 before U.S. District Judge Joe Heaton in Oklahoma City.

Cattleman claims invention stolen in Stillwater dispute

Cattleman Tom Hixson of Yale accuses Meridian Technology Center staff and researcher Steve Trost of fraud theft and breach of contract over a cattle temperature monitoring device. Attorneys deny the claim. An Oct 6 email indicates a potential small royalty to Hixson for sharing an idea that spurred patentable work. Hixson plans to sue while USDA investigates funding ties. The device aims to detect fever in calves via an ingestible pill transmitting to a neck or ear display. Hixson notes calf losses in 2000 spurred the invention and cites a 2002 patent filing for a vital signs system for animals.
