Father Of Seven Admits Being Escaped Prisoner
Clyde G. Swanson 50, a war veteran from St. Charles suburb, confessed he is actually George C. Hutchinson who escaped from an Illinois prison farm in November 1937. He and his wife and seven children turned himself in at the St. Charles sheriff office after a family conference. Authorities plan to return him to Illinois for a hearing within 90 days. Hutchinson said he served four years in the South Pacific, earned the Purple Heart, and led a double life to support his family until deciding to come clean. He had worked at Purex Co. for 10 years earning 3.03 per hour on the 4:00 p.m. to midnight shift. His parents and past remain largely unknown.
