Washington AP reports that seventh grade is a pivotal, hazardous period for four million youths yearly. Violence and vandalism peak at ages 12 and 13, with many attacked and attackers in junior high. Health officials target this age for anti smoking efforts as studies show high trial rates for alcohol and early heavy drinking. Experts describe puberty, peer pressure, and transition stresses as driving factors, noting a need for protective support and coping mechanisms for students facing rapid social and physical changes.
