Federal considers regulating fat and salt in foods
An Agriculture Department official said regulation of fat or salt content in foods may follow nitrite rule decisions. Carol Tucker Foreman noted hot dogs with 30 percent fat could be studied. nutritionists link high fat and salt intake to heart disease and high blood pressure. The Senate panel urged reductions in these nutrients.
