The 1960 70 census period saw 15 percent of new U.S. arrivals born in North America, about 3 million from Canada and 2.3 million from Mexico, changing the foreign stock pattern from Europe which had previously formed the majority of 33.6 million citizens born abroad and their descendants.
Community events include Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1193 and Auxiliary games at 926 S. 2nd at 8 p.m. Petunia Garden Club at 833 N. 33rd 9:30 a.m. Savante Study Club at 10 NW 56th 10 a.m. and many other clubs meeting at local venues through the week.
A compilation of Dear Abby questions includes a case of a husband waking at 4 AM to force himself on his wife, a truck driver’s lifestyle rebuttal, a widow seeking advice about a sister’s nights with her, and a note on American Indian population shares and state tax burdens.
The Eta Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at Mrs. Robert Ehlers home to plan a Valentine’s Day dance set for Saturday February 10. Nine members attended with Mrs. Gene Bartnicki presiding and Mrs. Earl Bell presenting a nature program. An incoming meeting is scheduled for Tuesday January 16 at Mrs. Roy Perry’s home. The Lawton Book and Play Review Club’s Thursday meeting has been canceled.
