Lawton Studies Para transit for elderly and handicapped
City officials examine a para transit plan to aid about 5,000 residents over 65 and 2,000 handicapped citizens. Options include a share-a-fare program, dial-a-ride scheduling, or coordinating agency buses, with a leaning toward share-a-fare after reviewing Oklahoma City. A final report to the council is planned for early 1978.

Governor seeks ninety million budget hike for Oklahoma
Governor David Boren asked the Oklahoma Legislature to approve about a 90 million increase for the next fiscal year's budget. Education would gain 52.5 million with higher education 17.3 million and common school financing rising 35.2 million, including a 700 dollar raise for teachers. The plan also adds 6 million for highways, 2 million for rural school bus bridge work, 300 thousand for a Water Development Authority, 900 thousand to help counties pay officials, and 300 thousand to boost audit staff at the Corporation Commission. Boren urged raises averaging 6.2 percent for state workers and a 40 to 80 dollar monthly wage increase, while opposing drawing from the state reserve. The total budget stands at 814.9 million in state spending, about 65 million more than last year but shown as a 90 million increase due to fewer one time capital items.

Whiskey was cheap, cider common, beer scarce before German brewers arrived. Drinking reinforced liberty and equality.
