Expanded Medicare option outlined in welfare bill debate
The House Ways and Means Committee defeated an amendment to move a welfare bill. The proposal adds an option for insured elderly to choose 180 days or 45 days of paid care before their 65th birthday, or keep the default 90 days. Costs rely on Social Security tax hikes, with up to $13 per year per employee and similar from employers. President cites aging population growth and proposes tax credits for those over 65, expanded deductions for medical costs, and other changes including third-party payments to handle aid.
