Governor Urges Property Tax Overhaul to Boost Local Revenues
Oklahoma Governor Bellmon pushes for a statewide overhaul of property assessment studies to raise local revenues for schools and governments. The plan hinges on the state equalization board and a new tax commission ratio study showing several counties fall below the state average. Bellmon cites school land appraisals as often higher than tax commission figures and argues for a more accurate method of appraisals to possibly raise ad valorem revenue.
