Near the 1300 block on Smith a house occupied by Lt. Jay Vickers and Lt. Pat Vickers was the scene as their dog Tiffany, dubbed a white Benji, growled in the backyard alerting to intruders. The officers confronted three men, two of whom fled toward a car. A warning shot scattered the suspects, and Patrolman Larry Johnson and Lt. Tommy Kuchynka later helped detain Roger L. Burt Shawn P. Fagan and Norman J. Pinet on two counts of burglary of an automobile. Vickers seeks to recruit Tiffany for police work and the incident concludes with the men in custody.
