Cracked Engine Cases Ground Numerous Air Force Fighters
The Air Force grounded F-111 and FB-111 aircraft after cracks in engine combustion cases and weld grind marks were found. Inspections of 452 engines showed a high rejection rate with about half of tested engines flagged. Some planes may stay grounded until new combustion cases arrive next July, while engines may be reassigned to maintain wartime readiness.
