Pentagon Signals Major Renewed Air Raids on North Vietnam
The Pentagon described renewed US bombing of North Vietnam as a very major effort with attacks on military targets not previously struck. Up to 100 B52 bombers may have been used, and as many as 100 SAMs were launched by Hanoi defenses on day one. The White House says raids aim to deter a new Communist offensive and push North Vietnam toward settlement. Friedheim declined to specify targets or aircraft numbers.
