Expansion Plans for 1300 Gore Office Block

Plans announced for a 55000 square foot extension to the Prudential office building at 1300 Gore Blvd. W R Boyington, owner of 1305 Gore, says the brick and steel annex will measure 50 by 84 feet and be built within 120 days following a city hall building permit. Mayor Ellsworth notes the new space will house additional insurance offices and other offices in Mt View addition block 15 lot 27-23.

Traffic Safety Analysis Ready for Thursday Presentation

The forty s traffic safety program inventory will be revealed at 10 a m Thursday in city hall council chambers. Bob Eastman state safety council manager will present the analysis based on 1956 reports from the city. The National Safety Council prepared the inventory which covers enforcement engineering court facilities school safety public information and safety organizations. One of 1200 studies for cities nationwide the report compares and outlines findings for 1200 participating cities. Alford Hennessee police department superintendent of identification and records said city officials with traffic responsibilities along with school safety civic leaders and safety council members are invited. Vernon Carmichael Lawton Safety Council president said special invitations will go to council members and other interested persons. The inventory program is part of the TRAPFIC coverage.

Dutch Evacuees Reach Singapore From Indonesia War

Refugees expelled from Indonesia in the West New Guinea conflict began arriving in Singapore. A Garuda-Indonesian plane brought 17 Dutch nationals, with an Argo Naut plane due with 48 more. Indonesians barred KLM and seized ships, while The Hague appealed for entry of Dutch aircraft and ships. The first evacuees included four women and nine children, many from KLM families.

Cold North Wind Rips Through City

North winds gusting to 50 miles per hour swept Lawton this morning keeping today’s high near 54 while tonight’s low falls to 23. Forecasters warn the cold spell and cloudy skies persist through Wednesday with a slow warmup beginning Thursday and no rain or snow expected. No damage reported in Lawton from the winds.

Culprits Sought In Oat Fire At Apache Garage

Local authorities seek the culprits who poured inflammable liquid on a car and set it alight last Friday. A passerby’s quick action saved the Jack Carter home garage from further destruction. The injured animal was killed.

Spring Tourist Season Eyed at Fort Sill Markers

Fort Sill prepares for spring visitors with a guide map to markers painted white by Col. W. S. Nye in the 1930s. Notable sites include the Satanic marker where Kiowa war chief Satank died in 1871 while escaping to Texas for trial in the Warren Wagon Train Massacre, the Indian Commissary where Kiowas and Comanches were issued rations from 1870 to 1878, and the site of the first artillery shell fired by the School of Fire in 1911 northwest of Sheridan Road and Fort Sill Boulevard. A marker near Quanette Crossing marks where Gen. Philip Sheridan camped in 1868, Sheridan's Walk runs from his tent to the mess tent by the creek. The Post Interpreter's house site and prison history for 103 Indians are noted in the hill toward Aughvey.
