Rummage for Marguiretta’s riches uncovers rare cash cache
After wrecking crews exposed the former Marguiretta’s mansion in Charlottesville in 1949, a digging spree by about 250 locals revealed hundreds in cash and coins. A 16 year old, Darlene Harris, found an $8,000 box and shared portions with helpers. She plans to use funds for bills and a car, while not reporting to the IRS. The three story red brick mansion near the University of Virginia had hosted prominent visitors and was famed for its furnishings.
