Solons Told Reformatory Not Suitable For Prison
Granit Oklahoma AP lawmakers warned converting the State Reformatory at Granite into a maximum security prison would cost well over 200000 and require major upgrades. Warden John Grider said the facility is not equipped for hard core criminals and would resign if placed in charge. Forty eight inmates from McAlester State Penitentiary have been moved to Granite. Grider and Corrections Director Leo McCracken said the reformatory houses youth and medium security inmates, with 385 medium and 140 on trustee status. Additional facilities and programs would be needed for max security.
