Withholding System Lifts Oklahoma Tax Revenue Growth
Oklahoma's income tax withholding system, in effect since July 1961, raises state revenue by about 1.5 million dollars annually and adds 20,000 to 25,000 taxpayers to the rolls. For 1962, 37,882 more individuals paid income taxes than in 1961, with total receipts of 33,919,818 after refunds. individuals paid 18,464,899 and corporations 14,154,920. The average tax per person fell as the base expanded. The 1963 Legislature allowed lowering withholding from 5 to 4 percent, but the Tax Commission plans no change yet.
