Legality Of Local Bills Is Attacked
Oklahoma City August 12 Senator Charles Wilson Sayre launched a double attack on the legality of local bills passed by the Legislature and began a plan to correct the situation. Local bills are forbidden by the constitution except in specific cases. The last session passed about 150 such bills, many authorizing pay raises or travel allowances for county officials. Wilson asked Legislative Council director Jack A. Rhodes to compile a list of local bills and draft a general county official pay increase bill for the next session, and to seek an attorney general ruling on legality.
