Reverend Wright Builds Dodge City First Church

In 1887 the Rev. Ormond Wright, a Presbyterian mission worker, arrived in Dodge City, Kansas once known as the wickedest town in the West. He preached in saloons and dance halls and organized a church after raising 450 dollars with help from local residents and a matching grant from New York. The town’s rough crowd funded the project, and Wright earned respect by performing a compassionate funeral for a murdered prostitute.

The administration aims to pass a House-passed debt ceiling bill to prevent a Sept. 1 debt limit drop from 309 billion to 285 billion, avoiding new Treasury debt sales.
