Memorial Hospital eyes record 740000 budget for next year

County Memorial Hospital submits a 740 276 55 dollar budget for 1958 to the county excise board. Salaries and wages lead expenses at 308 748 73 with 256 912 for supplies and equipment. The plan includes 77 278 for project plans and 12 300 for parking and road work plus 25 000 to open a new chronic disease hospital wing.

Army Missile Study Within President Limits

The Army says it is only conducting feasibility studies on medium and longer range missiles up to 200 miles as allowed by Secretary Wilson. Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower, 60, underwent a Walter Reed Hospital operation for a benign condition described as not serious. Dr Humbert L. Riva performed the procedure. the First Lady was reported in good condition and able to speak with the President by telephone after the operation.

Interstate freight rate hikes and defense civilian payroll cuts

The Interstate Commerce Commission approved cad bonds and freight increases ranging about 7 percent in the East and West and 40 percent in the South, effective after 15 days. Secretary Wilson halted civilian hiring across defense agencies pending economy measures, directing payroll cuts and reporting of any new hires. The Defense Department civilian payroll stood at 1,060,904 with a sanctioned maximum of 1,173,703 for the year ending July 1.
