III Corps Artillery Marks Birthday and History
The III Corps Artillery celebrates its 53rd birthday with a noon celebration at Rucker Park for HQ Battery personnel. The unit traces back to Col William F. Morrison and Camp Custer, Michigan, with WWI noncombat service, reactivations in WWII, Normandy support, and postwar activations at Fort Hood Fort Chaffee and Fort Sill. Today it comprises 15 battalions and 10 detachments within three field artillery groups serving the Field Artillery School and related ceremonies across Oklahoma, Arkansas, and North Texas.
