Lawton Farm Tax Break Moves in Oklahoma Senate
Oklahoma City lawmakers approved a farm sales tax exemption bill in the Senate, 25 to 15, with the measure held on the emergency clause. The plan would exempt feed, farm machinery, agricultural chemicals, baby chicks and turkey poults from the 2 percent tax to offset welfare fund deficits. A beer sales tax amendment was adopted to help balance revenues, but its impact on beer prices and overall tax policy remains unsettled with the House yet to act. Governor Gary opposed new taxes and awaits legislative packages.
