Legendary Spin gold final sparks bridge nostalgia
In a 1935 or 1936 Spin Gold final, Oswald Jacoby sat south with a massive hand. After a forcing two spades opening and a five spades raise, Jacoby aimed to match a parallel line at the other table but faced a late dummy error. Morris Flis recalled he would have coin-tossed to decide if Jacoby could outguess the layout.

Tax Frauds Can Be Curbed
CHICAGO AP Wide spread fraud in income tax returns prepared by persons other than the taxpayer could be curbed by simple precautions, says Seymour A. Rish executive secretary of the National Association of Enrolled Federal Tax Accountants. He urges the preparer to sign returns and include a Social Security number, for taxpayers to avoid signing blanks, to inspect the full return before signing, and to refuse to pay the preparer if they decline to sign. Taxpayers should not have refunds sent to the preparer.
